A member-owned cooperative developing a saline resource into a modern salt industry in the Somali Regional State of Ethiopia.
Noolays Salt Producer Cooperative is a newly established cooperative focused on developing natural salt resources in the Somali Regional State of Ethiopia. Our project is located in Dihun Woreda, Nogob Zone, Jajabe Kebele, within the Habulay saline river basin. The Cooperative has undertaken project-development activities including field investigation, resource assessment, site studies, preliminary engineering and project planning. Our long-term objective is to transform the identified resource opportunity into a modern salt-production and processing enterprise.
To build a modern, sustainable and competitive salt industry that creates long-term value for cooperative members, communities, partners and the wider economy.
To responsibly develop local salt resources through technology, investment, local participation, value addition and sustainable development.
Strong industries are built through cooperation between resource owners, investors, technical experts, communities and markets.
We aim to use appropriate modern production and processing technology rather than relying exclusively on traditional small-scale methods.
We seek to develop the resource responsibly while considering environmental, social and economic sustainability.
Our objective is to process and upgrade raw salt into products with greater commercial value.
Investors and partners should have access to appropriate technical, commercial and legal information for proper due diligence.
We want the project to create employment, business opportunities, skills development and broader economic benefits.
Noolays is a member-owned cooperative: the General Assembly of members is the highest decision-making body, elects the management committee and approves major commitments. Day-to-day project development is handled by the committee and its appointed contacts.
